HOW TO USE THIS MAP

Because it has to retrieve geographic coordinates from Google, the map can be a little slow to load.

By clicking the menu items above, you can narrow the range of markers shown on the map. For example, to see only communities where citizens groups are fighting Wal-Mart proposals, click on "Fighting a big-box project" and then on "Wal-Mart."

When you click on a marker, a pop-up box will display details about what's happening in that community. Click the X in the upper right corner to close the pop-up box (until the box is closed, you cannot do anything else).

The controls on the map itself allow you to zoom in and out (the plus and minus signs) and move around (the arrows). You can also move around by clicking and dragging your mouse across the map.
