Thousand Oaks, CA (Apr. 28, 2008) - The grassroots group, Citizens for Responsible Development, has placed an innovative policy that regulates big-box retail on June’s ballot.
Dissatisfied with busy traffic caused by big-box stores, the group gathered the 6,000 necessary signatures to place its initiative on the June 2008 ballot. If passed, a recently proposed 111,000 square-foot Home Depot would be subject to the initiative.
Formally called Measure B, aka The Right to Vote on Traffic Initiative, would require any development over 75,000-square-feet that would worsen traffic congestion below a “C” level to be voted on by the residents. Traffic congestion of this level would put roads and intersections near the development at 80% to 90% capacity. Read a Thousand Oaks’ planning commissioner’s op-ed regarding Measure B
