Simsbury, CT

Image Simsbury, CT (May 2, 2008) - Together, two grassroots groups, Simsbury Homeowners Advocating Responsible Expansion (SHARE) and Save Our Simsbury (SOS), have thwarted a development proposal that would have paved the way for a 128,000-square-foot Super Target.

In front of a large crowd, the zoning commission unanimously rejected the proposed planned development district that would have allowed the development. The commission commented that the large community opposition factored greatly in their decision. The groups galvanized so much opposition that this zoning commission hearing had already been rescheduled once due to overcrowding.

After the announcement of the 61-acre development in 2005, the groups worked diligently to publicize the negative impacts of the project. Through newsletters, op-eds, signs, and rallies the groups educated the community on the project’s contribution to traffic congestion, expensive city costs, and threat to the community’s character.
